Essex Attractions

History

Essex boasts a long and colorful maritime history. The Connecticut River Museum at Steamboat Dock, located on a pier at the bottom of Main Street in Essex, celebrates that history. The museum is a gem, and its location is magical.

On any given day, during any season, the pier is a beautiful place to visit. In the summer you can sit on a bench and feed the ducks, watching the hustle and bustle in the harbor. Visit in the winter and you might spot a barge cutting through the ice as it makes the trek from Hartford to the Sound. Otherwise it's entirely tranquil.
