The Natural Environment

One of the reasons the Connecticut River Valley area became - and continues to be - so attractive to artists is because of its pristine natural beauty. In fact, The Nature Conservancy has designated the Tidelands of the Connecticut River one of the world's Last Great Places. Thousands of acres of land have been preserved in the area through the efforts of the local land trusts and The Nature Conservancy, making it a destination of choice for naturalists and bird watchers as well as artists.

Essex Meadows is a proud member of Audubon International, and has naturalized its meadows in accordance with that organization's philosophies. In addition, our residents and their visitors enjoy hiking and cross-country skiing on our beautiful woodland trails.
